Valley Bone Density Center

Valley Bone Density Center began providing DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) scanning services to our patients since January of 2004. We started the service because Osteoporosis is a major public health concern. In the United States, over 28 million people are at high risk of developing Osteoporosis. Up to 1.5 million fractures per year are attributed to Osteoporosis. Women are at the greatest risk. One third of Caucasian women over the ago of 50 have Osteoporosis, yet nearly 80% remain undiagnosed. After menopause, a woman’s risk of suffering an Osteoporotic spine or femur fracture is 30%, or three times that of a man’s.

Valley Bone Density Center has a state-of-the-art Bone Densitometry machine made by General Electric. Our technologists have been trained in its use and reports are available for our physicians.

We are accredited by ISCD (The International Society for Clinical Densitometry), and our clinician is ISCD certified.

Patient Preparation:

A DEXA scan should not be performed if you are or may be pregnant, or are within 10 days of any other imaging examination. Do not take any calcium products for at least 24 hours prior to the examination. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably without zippers, buttons, or any metal fasteners.

Bring copies of any prior exams or related studies from other locations (images and reports) as these play a critical role in the overall success of your exam. And, please remember to bring a copy of your insurance card with you.
